You risk your heart in searching for a romance on the net.
Your mind may ponder fantasies and plans you may regret.
The words that come so easily from someone you don't know
can turn emotions inside out and start the tears to flow.
The thoughts you never told a soul, spring easily to mind.
Played out upon the keyboard to another of your kind,
but confiding in each other, and the secrets that you share,
Can turn into a passion and a love you should beware.
This love can bring great pleasure, but can also bring you pain
And the doubts you cannot face, will bring a torment to your brain,
And the words you read as truth, with a heart that wasn't wise,
Can be tarnished with suspicion, when you start to fantasize.
When it's hard to stay in contact, being half way round the earth.
You may wonder at the reasons, reconsidering your worth.
Spending all your waking moments, sad and lonely by the screen,
and you wonder what he's doing, and you wonder where he's been.
If he's sick you start to worry and start reaching for the phone,
but you never had his number, and don't even know his home.
If his system's giving trouble, that is easy to accept,
and you feel a little foolish for the tears that you have wept.
But you've never been beside him, and you've never met his friends.
And you never really know him, until the dreaming ends.
He gives words of reassurance, to tell you of his care,
but you wonder on occasions if he really wants you there.
Just a monitor and keyboard, are all that joins your minds,
And the magic they produce can bring a joy one seldom finds.
If this bond survives the trauma of romance on the net.
It could flourish for a lifetime, when finally you've met.
